Hi Bellas,
I'm back with another post on a bridal trial. Every weekend comes a new bridal trial and I'm loving it. I work with such a diverse group of brides from natural to dramatic, all races and colors and ethnicities. I recently had a trial and it's not like any i've ever tried before. Here's a shot of the inspiration look:
My bride was truly glam - a real life barbie. She admitted that she was known for always being done up and loved dramatic makeup. She actually had a trial before me, but wasn't happy with it because the makeup was too natural for her taste. I truly believe that when it comes to matching artists with clients, you have to find someone who is a right fit for you. That's why I highly recommend bridal trials. You'll want to not only make sure you create the perfect bridal makeup look, but you want to find an artist that is a match for you. My client saw some of my dramatic makeup looks in my portfolio and came to me.
Here's a shot of the look! As you can see it's super dramatic, more so than the typical "natural look". You want to give your professional opinion as an artist but the bride also needs to provide input on how she likes to look or else she won't be satisfied. The key is to find a balance. I tried to emulate the Kim K look but suit her features. The bride will be getting married on a stage in a theater with super bright lighting. She wanted to make sure you could see her through the lights and distance. Interestingly enough, the one thing that the bride wanted semi-natural was her brows. She didn't like when artists tried to draw them in. Instead, I opted for a lighter brown eyeshadow on an angled brush; it gives a much softer look. This was actually a really fun look to do and I think she looked gorgeous.
Another challenge was getting the right skin tone match. The client actually works in a tanning salon and loves very tan skin. However, she never tans her face in order to avoid facial skin damage. The difference between her face and body was about 6 shades or so. Many makeup artists might try to match her neck but in this case, we needed to match her chest. I matched the outer rim of her face to her chest but still kept the middle lighter in order to keep her face radiant. She wanted a flawless, high coverage finish so my technique including applying Graftobian cream foundation and then blending with a damp beauty blender sponge. Afterwards, I took a flat top kabuki brush and buffed in Graftobian Dual Finish Powder foundation. Here's a tip, if you have a client that loves to tan, they generally like their face to match their chest, not their neck. Don't be afraid to go a bit darker.
Here's what I used:
FACE
MAC Oil Control Lotion
Eve Pearl Anti-Shine
Embryolisse Hydra-Matte
Graftobian Cream Foundation
Graftobian Dual Finish Powder Foundation
MAC Sculpt & Shape Powders
MAC Dame Blush
EYES
UDPP
Steelo Light Eyeshadow Base
MAC shadows in blanc type and carbon
Stars Makeup Haven shimmery white eyeshadow
Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner in Blackest Black
MAC Fascinating Eye Kohl
Waterproof Black Mascara
Red Cherry #73 Falsies (good for a spikey lash look)
LIPS
pale toned foundation to nude out lips
MAC Fleshpot lipstick
MAC fashion scoop creamsheen gloss
The wedding is this weekend so I'll make sure to take lots of pictures.
Till next time, Ciao Bellas!
